Transfering your AOL mail to Gmail

As requested, the way to set-up Googlemail to automatically retrieve email from your AOL account.
Please note that I have found it impossible to make this work for Hotmail or Yahoo.
When you log into Gmail you will find settings in the top right handside of your page, and make sure your logged into AOL
All the messages that you want to transfer from AOL will have to be marked as read and put in the Inbox (if in other folders). Gmail collects new emails every hour automatically.

Click on Settings
Click on Accounts
Get mail from other accounts
Put on your AOL email address
On the next screen, fill in your password
If necessary tick Leave a copy of the retrieved message on the server
Label incoming messages can be ticked if wanted
Click Save

Subscription Links(Google Reader)

1. Go to LAYOUT page and click on ADD GADGET

2. When the window opens scroll down to subscription Links (4th on the list)

3. Click on this, and then click save.

4. This will put the subscribe to posts or comments widget on your blog page.

When this is done your readers can decide what they want to subscribe to, and can read your posts or comments in Google Readers.

To get the comments for your blog to come to your emailbox, do the following:

Click Customization at the top right hand side of your blog after you have signed into Blogger through Google. After Customization, click on Settings, then Comments, then go down to Comment Notification Email - and put in your own email address. Do NOT put anybody else's email address in this box, unless you want them to get all the comments to your blog (and I am sure you don't !). Just put in your email address where you'd like to receive the comments. Don't forget to click Save Changes then View Blog.

If you'd like to be sure you set up your Comment Alerts correctly -- that it's working -- then write a quick comment in your own blog and press Post Comment. In a few seconds your own comment will appear in your emailbox! Now every time somebody makes a comment in your blog, the comment will be sent to your emailbox...

You won't miss any comments this way!

HELP WANTED!

This is a request to those who know about graphics and photography, as you know many use both in their journals, and things appear to work differently on blogger, so those of you who are more expert in this area please add your knowledge to this blog, I can add you as an author, or you can e-mail me and I'll copy and paste on here, of course giving you the full credit.

Also as we can add much more to Blogger than we could to AOL if you hear of any cool sites that could be of use drop me a line and I'll add it to the links in the sidebar.

Word Verification - Removing

Lots of people find it difficult to read the scrambled letters that are used for Word Verification on the original Blogger comments form.

Many of us have taken this off because it is not unknown to have to make two or three attempts to leave a comment due to misreading the letters. It is also very hard on the eyes.

Some people are using the new comment box, but have still left the word verification on.

Turning off word verification is simple. Go into your Settings, then choose Comments, scan down and you will see word verification listed. You can have it on or off. Choose the NO option, then press SAVE. It makes it so much quicker and easier for people. Leaving verification on serves no purpose, it is just time consuming for commenters.

Fonts and Colours

Go to LAYOUT
underneath you will see a tab for fonts and colours
Click on the tab, and it will bring up a colour pallette, your journal will appear beneath it so you can see the colours as they will appear on your blog, including font size.

Click save you can also change the colours anytime.

Choosing A New Background

To choose a different background

1. Go to LAYOUT, and click on the tab choose template
2. A screen will come up with several templates,
on the mimina template if gives you several options:
whether you want your side bar on the left or right
colour and also a stretch template which I'm told is better for photo's and graphics
3 click on the template you want, there is also a preview button
4 Click save, and you now have a new template.

Another site you can use is: The Cutest Blog On The Block though this site was down the las I looked, but the process is quite simple choose the background you want, and it will generate a code for you to copy and paste into Html/Java on your ADDA GADGET option.

I will add links as and when I find them, with Blogger were quite lucky as we can add most things.

On Blogger Buster click on widgets and you can add a tool which shows you your Top Ten commenters

Widget Box is another good tool although if you use the ADD GADGET tool on your LAYOUT page
on the left hand side in blue there are a list if widgets you can add to your blog.

Finetune or Playlist if you want to add music to your page

Odiogo if you want to add Audio

Click on the links in the sidebar

ALERTS

The one thing we all seem to be missing from Blogger is alerts, yes you can use the dash board, and your blog list, but a couple of weeks ago I found this:

GMAIL NOTIFIER

Go to the Google search and type in, you will have to down load it, but the whole process from downloading to setting it up takes about 10-15 minutes.

In the SETTINGS section click on the tab comments and use your Google e-mail address, so that all comments are directed to your Gmail address

I got this tip from Jeannette(outside looking in)

1. Go to SETTINGS

2. click on the tab COMMENTS

3 Scroll down half way to view your comment options

4. Choose the 3rd option and click save, this will then embed the comments box on your page.

Adding Blog List To Your Blog

As well as on the dashboard, you can have your blogs that you follow on your blog page.

1. Go to your "LAYOUT" page and click on "ADD A GADGET"

2. Blog List is the first option

3. A box will pop up, tick the options at the top of that page, as this is what information will appear on your page.

4. Click on ADD TO LIST: your reading list will then come up, either tick the boxes or click on "Select All".

5. Click on Save, your blog list is now added to your journal page.

FOLLOWERS

Go to your Dashboard, and scroll half way down and you will come to your reading list, to ADD to your reading list you will need to do the following,

1 Click on ADD -a box will pop up asking you to enter the URL (Blog link)

2. Type in the the full blog link- example-http://Jlandbloggerhelppage.blogspot.com (ensure you enter the link exactly as written)

3. This will take you to stage 2 click in the box that says follow (1st option)

4. Click save, it takes a few seconds to load onto your reading list

5. If it does not load either the link is incorrect or there is a glitch with blogger, check that the link is correct or try again later.

6. If you have none of the above issues you are now a follower on that blog.
